Advanced Clinical Nurse
Elevating care through leadership, collaboration, and clinical excellence

As an Advanced Clinical Nurse at Valleywise Health, you’ll deliver high-quality, age-specific nursing care in a diverse, team-based environment. Working under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Executive DON (Ambulatory), you’ll collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compassionate, and effective care for every patient.

In this advanced practice role, you'll:

  • Deliver all aspects of direct patient care-from assessments and medication administration to identifying nursing needs and developing care plans.

  • Provide or delegate care in accordance with Valleywise Health standards and policies.

  • Serve as a trusted patient advocate and educator, promoting understanding and engagement in care.

  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation to support seamless patient experiences.

  • Indirectly supervise ancillary staff, offering clinical guidance and oversight.

  • Actively participate in team building, staff development, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to advancing professional practice through ongoing contributions to care excellence, process improvements, and innovation.

Hourly Pay Rate: $35.52 - $52.39
 
Qualifications
Education:
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing.
Experience:
  • Must have at least one (1) year of recent acute care hospital RN experience that demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills and abilities, or if completed the New Grad RN program at Valleywise Health then must have at least one (1) year of Valleywise Health experience as a RN and be in good standing.
  • Previous acute care hospital experience in the area he or she is applying for is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Must possess a current, valid AZ RN license, a temporary AZ RN license, or a valid compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
  • Must be in good standing with the issuing Board of Nursing.
  • Requires a BLS card obtained through an American Heart Association (AHA) training center upon hire.
  • In addition, certification or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice:
    • Ambulatory/Specialty Clinics: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
    • Angio Suite: Must obtain ACLS and PALS within six (6) months of hire or transfer.
    • Antepartum Testing Center: Must have an Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification upon hire or transfer. Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
    • Behavioral Health: CPI certification and BLS training will be provided upon hire or transfer to Behavioral Health Departments.
    • BH Unit 2 Adolescent: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
    • Burn Med Surg Adult: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain PALS within six (6) months. Must obtain ABLS within one (1) year.
    • Burn Med Surg Peds: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain PALS within six (6) months. Must obtain ABLS within one (1) year.
    • Burn Center ICU: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain PALS within six (6) months. Must obtain ABLS within one (1) year.
    • Burn Unit Emergency: Must have ACLS and PALS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain ABLS within one (1) year.
    • Burn Clinic: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain PALS within six (6) months. Must obtain ABLS within one (1) year.
    • Cath Lab: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer.
    • Critical Care: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Must obtain TNCC, ATCN, or TCAR within twelve (12) months of hire or transfer. Critical Care Certified Nurse (CCRN) preferred.
    • Dialysis: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
    • ED-Roosevelt: Must have ACLS and PALS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain ATCN or TNCC within twelve (12) months and ENPC within twelve (12) months. Must obtain National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Pediatric Certified Emergency Nurse (PCEN), or Trauma Certified Emergency Nurse (TCRN) is preferred.
    • ED-Maryvale: Must have ACLS and PALS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain ATCN or TNCC within twelve (12) months and ENPC within twelve (12) months. Must obtain National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Pediatric Certified Emergency Nurse (PCEN), or Trauma Certified Emergency Nurse (TCRN) is preferred.
    • ENDO: Must obtain ACLS and PALS within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) certification is preferred.
    • FQHC Primary Care: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
    • L&D: Must have ACLS and NRP upon hire or within three (3) months of hire or transfer if new grad/new to service. If less than 2 years of RN L&D experience, the candidate must complete AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within six (6) months and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring class within 2 years. If greater than two (2) years of RN L&D experience, AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring will be required upon hire. Advanced Fetal Monitoring must be maintained every two (2) years through an approved course.
    • IRP: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer. Additional certifications may be required to work in specialty areas.
    • McDowell Clinic: Must obtain an HIV certification, which is required within thirty (30) months of hire or transfer. Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
    • Medical Oncology Ortho: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain an ONS (Chemotherapy Biotherapy Card) within twelve (12) months of hire or transfer.
    • NICU: Must have NRP upon hire or within three (3) months of hire or transfer for new grads/new to service.
    • Nursing Float Pool: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer. Additional certifications may be required to work in specialty areas.
    • Observation: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer.
    • Oncology Clinic: Must obtain a Chemo Certification within six (6) months of hire or transfer.
    • OR (other than Peoria): CNOR certification is preferred. Must obtain ACLS and PALS within ninety (90) days of hire or transfer.
    • OR (Peoria): Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. CNOR certification is preferred. Must obtain ACLS and PALS within ninety (90) days of hire or transfer.
    • PreOp/PACU (Other than Peoria): Must obtain ACLS and PALS within ninety (90) days of hire or transfer. Must obtain TCAR and PCAR within ninety (90) days of hire or transfer.
    • PreOp/PACU (Peoria): Must obtain ACLS and PALS within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. Must obtain ACLS and PALS within ninety (90) days of hire or transfer.
    • PICU: Must have PALS and NRP upon hire or transfer or within three (3) months if new grad/new to service. Must obtain ATCN, TNCC or PCAR within twelve (12) months. PCAR is preferred.
    • Peds Acute: Must have PALS and NRP upon hire or within three (3) months of hire or transfer for new grad/new to service.
    • Post Partum: Must have NRP upon hire or within three (3) months of hire or transfer for new grad/new to service.
    • Surgical Trauma: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse people is a must.
  • Bilingual is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills.
  • Requires basic computer word processing skills (e.g., formatting, editing, printing, composing email, internet searches, etc.) to navigate through an electronic medical record using a computer successfully.
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
