Department: BH Float Pool

Schedule: Per Diem 12 Hours Per Week

Shifts: Days

Under the direction of the Manager Chaplain Services, the Chaplain functions as a colleague with other departmental staff.  This position implements the mission of Valleywise Health by striving to meet the universal and diverse religious, spiritual, and emotional needs of patients, families, and staff.  This position has access to and knowledge of extremely sensitive, private and confidential materials. An ability to maintain the highest standard is required. 
 
Pool Rate $32.40
 
Qualifications
Education:
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Pastoral Theology, Pastoral Counseling, Religion or related field. Prefer Master's of Divinity; or an equivalent combination of training and progressively responsible experience that will result in the required specialized knowledge and abilities to perform the assigned work.
  • Prefer a Master's of Divinity.
  • Must have successful completion of one to four (1-4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from a nationally accredited Chaplain Program, preferably Healthcare Chaplain Ministry Association, Professional Chaplains, or Association of Clinical Pastoral Education.
     
Experience:
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of service/ministry experience as a Chaplain in a hospital and behavioral health setting that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to complete the assigned work.
Specialized Training:
  • Behavioral Health Areas: Requires Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training. 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must have a solid standing within his or her denomination, as evidenced by ecclesiastical endorsement.
  • Demonstrates value placed on the importance of working as a team both within and outside the department.
  • Ability to be assertive, resilient, and empathetic.
  • Must be in good physical and emotional health.  Ability and stamina to minister/serve patients, families and staff with varying physical and mental dysfunctions.
  • Must be able to work in an acute setting with individuals who have mental illness and may have experienced trauma due to violence, abuse or neglect, and/or substance abuse and bring hope.
  • Must have flexibility in work schedule, programs, and services and the ability to work in both Medical and Behavioral Health settings with little direct supervision of work.
  • Ability to work with community spiritual support providers of pluralistic faith backgrounds.
  • Ability to conduct, facilitate, and provide assistance and support to community spiritual support providers, who may provide positive spiritually based coping activities by utilizing non-denominational, religious, and inter-faith services that may include worship services, spirituality groups, recovery groups, and faith based groups, for patients, family, and staff, when requested, scheduled or directed.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Participates in the interdisciplinary team approach to patient care.
  • Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.
