The Vice President and Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for Valleywise Health provides medical leadership for all clinical information systems (CIS) that assist clinicians in effectively delivering patient care, medical education and research, and advancing clinical quality and safety initiatives, operating in a direct line reporting relationship to the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer and a strong "dotted line" reporting relationship to the Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. 
 
As Valleywise Heath's VP/CMIO, you will lead and participate in various committees representing the needs and requirements of the physician community and advocates for using information technology in the clinical setting. You will build solid relationships and foster consensus at all health system levels, from front-line clinicians to executive leadership. This role works closely with the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) on efforts to utilize best clinical practices by integrating evidence-based medicine and data-driven decision-making, playing a central role in ensuring that these systems align with the needs of physicians/providers and facilitate efficient and effective patient care. We will look to you to champion the use of the Epic EMR and ancillary systems to improve patient safety with the implementation of clinical decision support (CDS).
 
Annual Salary Range: $249,225.00 - $367,598.00
 
Qualifications
Education:
  • Requires a clinical doctorate (MD or DO). 
  • Board certified/eligible in an ABMS-recognized specialty and clinical informatics through the ABPM.
  • Must hold or be eligible for an academic appointment within the Creighton University School of Medicine.
  • A Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Medical Informatics, or Business Administration would be highly preferred.
Experience:
  • Must have between five (5) and ten (10) years of expert experience in a clinical medical practice with a thorough understanding and comprehension of Clinical Information Systems in driving clinical improvements. 
  • Demonstrated expert-level experience in driving strong clinical process enablement and improvement via a large-scale EMR (Epic preferred) in a large ambulatory and teaching hospital environment.
  • Formal experience in clinical informatics and/or informatics.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Must be board certified in area of specialty and must maintain this certification.
  • An Arizona medical license is required.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain credentialing with Valleywise Health through Medical Staff Services.
  • Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within 90 days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have healthcare information technology experience, with demonstrated expert-level experience providing medical leadership for clinical information systems and computerized physician order entry (EPIC EMR Required). 
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and can work collaboratively with diverse personalities. 
  • Must cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with executives and physicians. 
  • Must be approachable and demonstrate respect for others. 
  • Must be able to present data with effective communication and presentation skills. 
  • Must be an effective consensus builder. 
  • Must possess a strong grasp of clinical workflow(s) and technology need(s) in inpatient and outpatient settings. 
  • Must be a strong leader with practical experience in using clinical technologies to support patient care. 
  • Must be able to understand major trends in healthcare and emerging clinical technologies. 
  • Requires ability to perform effectively in a dynamic environment, analyze complex problems, develop recommendations and solutions, and articulate recommendations/ solutions. 
  • Must be a team leader and team player, strategically focussed with an established track record of successful delivery, action-oriented and results-driven, and have high integrity and trustworthiness. 
  • Must have experience with standardization of systems and consolidation of multiple information systems and understand how to foster educated decision-making. 
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
