At Valleywise Health, we believe recovery is not only possible-it’s personal. As an IBH Peer Specialist, you’ll bring lived experience, empathy, and empowerment to the forefront of care, supporting individuals and families as part of a collaborative, integrated behavioral health team.
 
Under the direction of the Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician, and working alongside medical and behavioral health professionals in the Community Health Center (CHC) and community settings, you’ll play a vital role in guiding patients on their path to wellness.
 
What You’ll Do:
  • Provide direct peer support services to individuals, groups, and families, focusing on shared experience, recovery, and hope
  • Support patients by helping them navigate resources, build natural supports, and strengthen self-advocacy skills
  • Assist in psychoeducation, recovery planning, and relapse prevention, using interventions rooted in compassion and empowerment
  • Collaborate in individualized care planning, ensuring patient voice, choice, and cultural relevance are at the center of treatment
  • Engage family members to reinforce sustainable recovery through relationship building, education, and support
  • Help facilitate and co-lead groups, workshops, and community outreach that promote mental, emotional, and behavioral wellness
  • Partner with the interdisciplinary team to enhance patient experience, autonomy, and self-determination, while supporting system navigation and service coordination
  • Contribute to the treatment of mental health and substance use challenges using models such as:
    • Trauma-Informed Care
    • Motivational Interviewing
    • Strengths-Based Recovery Planning
    • Crisis Support and Stabilization
This role is ideal for a certified peer specialist who is passionate about helping others find hope through shared experience, and who values working in an innovative, person-centered, and community-based care setting.
 
Annual Salary Rate: $48,006.40 - $70,814.40
 
Qualifications
Education:
  • Preferred Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Social Work, Family Studies, or related human service field; or an equivalent combination of training and progressively responsible experience that will result in the required specialized knowledge and abilities to perform the assigned work. Must have knowledge of peer and recovery principles and practices.  
Experience:
  • Prior experience working in a mental health or integrated care setting is preferred.
Specialized Training:
  • Completion of Certified Peer Support Training in Arizona is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Prefer LMSW, LCSW, LMAFT, LMFT, LAC, or LPC certification through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
  • Must obtain fingerprint card as defined in Arizona Statute (A.R.S.) 36-425.03 and state licensing rule R9-10-1011(A)(4) within 90 days of employment.
  • Requires BLS through an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training center within 3 months of hire into position.
  • Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid AZ-issued driver's license in good standing, and must carry the AZ legally required minimum insurance coverage on personal vehicle at all times.

  • Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English, including professional-level usage or grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work on your own, as well as work effectively in a multidisciplinary team with adults, families, and children
  • Requires knowledge of community resources and knowledge of the DSM V Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - Fifth Edition).
  • Must have awareness and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
  • Must have time management, flexibility, and positive customer service orientation skills.
