Facility: Valleywise Behavioral Health Center - Mesa

Department: BH Intake

Schedule: Regular FT 40 Hours Per Week

Shifts: Days

Under the direction of the Director of Inpatient Behavioral Health Programs and through coordination with the department directors, managers, and supervisors, the Manager of BH Intake works independently to oversee the day-to-day operations of the following critical support functions, including management of subordinate employees working in these areas: all documentation and coordination related to the inpatient admission process for adult and adolescent patients for the Valleywise Behavioral Health Centers (Desert Vista, Annex and Maryvale). This position also serves as a liaison between administration and department staff.

Annual Salary Range: $89,897.60 - $132,600.00
 
Qualifications
Education:
  • Requires a master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field and an associate-level license granted by the AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
  • Prefer an individual licensed at the independent level.
Experience:
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of progressive, responsible behavioral health work experience that demonstrates a strong understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Requires prior supervisory/management experience, preferably within a support services function in a healthcare organization.
  • Pursuant to Arizona Administrative Code R9-10-306 CHAPTER 10 of the Dept. of Health Services, personnel must be at least 21 years of age, or at least 18 years of age and licensed or certified under A.R.S. Title 32 and providing services within the personnel member’s scope of practice.
  • Prior experience in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting is strongly preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Requires an associate-level license (LMSW, LAC, etc.) from the AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
  • An Independent License is strongly preferred (LCSW, LPC, etc.).
  • CPI certification and BLS Card training will be provided upon hire/transfer to the BH department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must understand the Behavioral Health Crisis System in Maricopa County and have prior experience in some capacity working within that system.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of mental health assessment in the context of determining appropriate levels of care and medical necessity criteria for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization.
  • Must know all facets of Arizona's mental health commitment process, including the applicable Arizona Revised Statutes (Title 36).
  • Must have a good working knowledge of general management practices and principles, including a good understanding of the Valleywise Health Merit Rules.
  • Must have the ability to supervise and coordinate the work of subordinate personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. 
  • Must be approachable, people-oriented, and a good listener. 
  • Must be a change agent able to develop, implement, and maintain policies and processes. 
  • Requires the ability to be a creative, independent thinker.
  • Must exhibit a high degree of professionalism, customer service, and enthusiasm, combined with the ability to build relationships with business and key stakeholders.
  • Must possess solid analytical and problem-solving skills along with the ability to utilize the appropriate management techniques to plan, organize, control, and coordinate activities.
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English, including professional-level grammar, spelling, and punctuation usage.
