Department: Surgery Clinic - Phoenix

Schedule: Regular PT 24 Hours Per Week

Shifts: Days

As part of the Perioperative Service line, the Surgery Clinics at Valleywise Health provide a continuum of surgical outpatient care including evaluation, consultation, pre- and post-surgical care as well as minor procedures (e.g., biopsy, catheter exchange, vein ablation, TRUS biopsy, cystoscopy, minor excisions, tissue expansion and wound care). The services offered include general surgery, pediatric surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, podiatry, urology, plastic & reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation.  

Salary Range: Hourly rate: $18.24 - $26.90  

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Requires graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants or Valleywise Health approved course.

 

Experience:

  • Prefer at least one (1) year of relevant related experience, preferably in clinic setting. 

 

Certification/Licensure:

  • Incumbents hired into this position must be eligible to sit for one of the following certification exams: (1) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification issued by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or (2) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification issued by American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • A BLS card obtained through an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training center is required at time of hire.
  • Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety OR submit a completed Affidavit at time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within 90 days of applying for fingerprint clearance card.

 

General Surgery Clinic MA Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Rooming patients- obtaining vital signs and documentation of general medical history pertaining to the clinic visit, dressing take down, procedure set-up, anticipation/implementation of provider needs and preferences, etc.
  • Discharging patients- complete any immediate orders and wound cares/dressing application, schedule follow-up visits, complete referrals, obtain prior authorization for subsequent visits/meds/supplies as needed, provide instruction and discharge documentation. Assist in surgery scheduling process as needed
  • Procedure set-up/assisting/clean-up
  • Instrument cleaning and processing
  • Case management- Chart checks, appointment confirmation, appointment scheduling as needed, incoming referral triage, outgoing referral processing and management, surgery instruction documentation and dissemination, monitoring and responding to incoming voicemails and messages
  • Exam room pre and post visit set-up/take down and cleaning
  • Supply Inventory monitoring and maintenance 

 

Clinical Skills including but not limited to (training and education provided as needed):

  • Suture/staple removal
  • Wound vac removal/application
  • General dressing changes and wound care as ordered
  • Drain care and/or removal
  • Procedure set-up/assisting
  • Vital signs including height, weight, temp, resp, BP, pain scale, pediatric cranial measurements
  • Bladder scan
  • Uroflow
