Under the direction of a radiologist or supervisor, the MRI Technologists perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures. A variety of MRI procedures require independent judgment, specialized technical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and medical knowledge, including anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Magnetic Resonance safety principles are applied to obtain optimal studies to aid in diagnosis.
 
Hourly Pay Range: $34.15 - $50.37
 
Qualifications
Education:
  • Requires an Associate Degree in Radiography and/or completed certificate program in MRI.
Experience:
  • Prefer two to three (2-3) years of MRI experience.
Specialized Training:
  • MRI certification courses.
  • Cross-sectional anatomy.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Requires MRI certification with The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
  • Current employees cross trained in MRI must obtain MR certification through The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) within one year of their MRI transfer date.
  • New graduates that complete their externship at Valleywise Health must obtain and ARMRIT or ARRT (MR) within two years of hire date.
  • Licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS), Medical Radiologic Technology (MRT) is preferred. 
  • Requires a BLS card obtained through an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training center within three months.  
  • Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within 90 days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.

  • The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.

  • Must possess solid analytical and problem-solving skills along with the ability to utilize the appropriate management techniques to plan, organize, control and coordinate MRI exams.
  • Proficient in computer systems, knowledge of medical imaging information systems including PACS, EPIC.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's departmental policies and procedures.
  • Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.
