As a Psychiatric Social Worker, you’ll be a vital part of an interdisciplinary care team, supporting psychiatric adult and geriatric inpatients through every step of their treatment and recovery journey.
Reporting to the Psychiatric Social Work Manager, you’ll blend clinical expertise with high-level coordination skills to deliver effective, person-centered care. This role combines the depth of social work practice with the logistical precision of behavioral health admissions coordination, making it ideal for a professional who thrives at the intersection of advocacy, treatment, and systems navigation.
What You’ll Do:

Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and establish DSM-5-based diagnoses in collaboration with medical and psychiatric providers

Develop individualized treatment and discharge plans, ensuring safe, well-supported transitions back to the community

Provide psychotherapy (individual, family, or group), offering emotional support and clinical interventions tailored to the needs of patients and families

Coordinate and manage all aspects of the court-ordered evaluation and treatment process, including documentation, liaison duties with mental health courts, and witness coordination

Oversee behavioral health admissions by verifying legal status, processing court paperwork, gathering collateral information, and ensuring appropriate bed placement

Perform utilization review and collaborate with insurance providers to ensure timely authorizations and continued care coverage

Serve as a liaison between patients, families, legal representatives, and external providers to ensure seamless, coordinated care

Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and daily team meetings, contributing insights that reflect a deep understanding of social determinants of health

Hourly Pay Rate: $38.00
Qualifications
Education:
Education:
- Requires a Master's Degree in a Behavioral Health field such as Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or Substance Abuse Counselor.
Experience:
- Prior experience working with mental health is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
- Pursuant to Arizona Administrative Code R9-10-306 CHAPTER 10 of the Dept. of Health Services, personnel must be at least 21 years of age, or at least 18 years of age and licensed or certified under A.R.S. Title 32, and providing services within the personnel member's scope of practice.
- Prefer LMSW or LCSW licensure through the AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
- BH Unit 2 Adolescent: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within 90 days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
- CPI certification and BLS Card training will be provided upon hire/transfer to the BH department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be a self-starter and able to work independently and effectively in a multidisciplinary team with adults, families, and children.
- Requires excellent knowledge of community resources and knowledge of the DSM IV.
- Must have awareness and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed.
- Time management, flexibility, and positive customer service orientation are necessary.
- Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
